Abstract
Summary
Eightyfour of operated cases were examined by spirometry and bronchospirometry
before and after operation, among which 24 was T.P. and the rest was resection of
various extent. Results were obtained as was described above. There was about 10¡
29% of reduction of total V.C. and M.B.C. in T.P. without close relation to the stage
done but in resection there are some differences with the extent of resection. Segmental
resection(1-2 seg. mostly 1 seg) seems to be slightly better than in T.P. generaly
though no marked difference is noticed. Lobedtimy showed about same reduction as T.P.
but lobectomy with other procedure showed more reduction than T.P. in bith V.C. and
M.B.C. Timed V.C. has not been interfered by any kind of surgery, and the majority of
resection cases showed improvement instead of loss. Most of the destroyed lung cases
who underwent penumonectomy showed relatively small reduction or no change in V.C.
but in scattered lesion cases brought quite big reduction. MBC in pneumonectomied case
showed moderate reduction with 10-39% of total. In bronchospirometric examination we
could see no close relation between loss of function and extent of surgery. No
significant feature could be outlined in T.P. but reduction in O2
consumption seems to be larger than that of M.V. of V.C., and majority of cases lost
more than 30%. It seems to be about the same also in resection cases but there is less
loss of M.V. and V.C. in segmental resection than other type of surgery including T.P.
and various extent of resection. There was also significant loss of O2
uptake and V.C. in bronchospirometric examination with lobedtomy+T.P. which shows
more than 30% of loss compared to pre-operative test. One case showed no reduction or
slight reduction in bronchospirometric examination.
